Abstract:

Introduction: The water pollution remediation is a challenging topic in environmental science. The purpose of this study was to achieve the practical methods for evaluation of the efficiency of latest modern technologies in order to remove dyes from the aqueous solution. Methods: In this experimental study, we used nanotechnology technique for production of the Sodium alginate magnetic beads by the chemical precipitation method. The adsorption experiments data was compilanced by the Langmuir and Frenundich isotherm models. We examined the removal of the acid cyanine 5R dye from synthetic wastewater samples by using the synthesized beads in batch reactor. The effect of environmental factor (such as pH, contact time, adsorbate and adsorbent concentration) on the efficiency of removal of acid cyanine 5R has been studied. Composition of Alginate magnetic beeds (calcium, soudium and ferrous) determined by atomic adsorbtion instrument. The dye concentration in the samples was measured by spectrometry method using a UV-1700 Pharmaspec Shimadzo spectrophotometer at 574 nm wavelengh. Results: The efficiency of sodium alginate magnetic beads to remove the Acid Cyanine 5R had a direct relationship with contact time and inverse relationship with dye concentration. Relationship between contact time and efficiency of dye removal showed the equilibrium acquire after 210 minute. The maximum efficiency of dye removal was in initial concentration of 50 ppm. The results also showed the adsorption of Acid Cyanine 5R complies with Freundlich isotherm model. Conclusion: Generally from environmental view this process is safer and it can compet with other common methods. So, we recommended this method for removal of pollution from aqueous solution.

Preparation of magnetic chitosan/Fe-Zr nanoparticles for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution

Copper and hexavalent chromium are heavy metals that are harmful to human health. Natural adsorbent chitosan, due to its considerable properties such as the presence of functional groups of –NH2 and -OH, non-toxicity, low cost, and biocompatibility, has gained much attention in pollutant removal. Therefore, in the present study, adsorption of chromium (VI) and copper (II) ions was conducted in ...

Application of Magnetic Nano Adsorbent Fe2O3 for Removal of Hazardous Ponceau-S Dye from Aqueous Solution

The photodegradation of Ponceau-S dye was investigated using UV radiation in presence of nanosized Fe2 O3 .Removal efficiency of Ponceau-S was sensitive to the operational parameters such as dye concentration, catalyst dose, pH, contact time, TOC and COD. The photocatalytic treatment of red colored Ponceau-S dye by magnetic nano semiconductor (Fe2 O3 )is an effective, economic and faster mode. ...

Removal of copper (II) from aqueous solutions by sodium alginate/hydroxy apatite hydrogel modified by Zeolite

The study presented in this article investigated the removal of copper ions from aqueous solutions by a synthetic hydrogel-forming adsorbent polymer based on sodium alginate (SA) and hydroxy apatite (HA) nanoparticles. The effect of adding Zeolite on the adsorption performance of this hydrogel was also investigated, and the optimum amount of Zeolite was determined by changing its quantity. The ...

Selective Magnetic Removal of Pb(II) from Aqueous Solution by Porphyrin Linked-Magnetic Nanoparticles

The discharge of lead containing effluents into the environment and water bodies is harmful for the human, animals, aquatic flora and fauna. Herein, a novel surface engineered magnetic nanoparticle for removing Pb2+  ions was studied. After surface modification of the magnetite by 3-amino-propyltriethoxysilane (APTES) magnetic nanoparticles with covalently linked porphyrins were synthesize...

Addition of Fillers to Sodium Alginate Solution Improves Stability and Immobilization Capacity of the Resulting Calcium Alginate Beads

Background: Although advantages of immobilization of cells through entrapment in calcium alginate gel beads have already been demonstrated, nevertheless, instability of the beads and the mass transfer limitations remain as the major challenges. Objective: The objective of the present study was to increase the stability, porosity (reduce mass transfer limit...

Magnetic Pycnoporus sanguineus-loaded alginate composite beads for removing dye from aqueous solutions.

Dye pollution in wastewater is a severe environmental problem because treating water containing dyes using conventional physical, chemical, and biological treatments is difficult. A conventional process is used to adsorb dyes and filter wastewater. Magnetic filtration is an emerging technology. In this study, magnetic Pycnoporus sanguineus-loaded alginate composite beads were employed to remove...
